A-01The manifesto
SCALE is not a festival.
It is the moment when Africa's film industry decides to take charge of itself.
A film exists for those who understand it. When no chain dubs, distributes and exports it, it stops at the doors of its own audience. SCALE brings together the people who can build that chain, link by link.
We don't wait for infrastructure. We draw it, then we build it.
A-02Five letters, one plan
Summit
One working place for the entire value chain.
Cinema
The subject is not culture in general. It is the film, its making and its life.
African
Works, audiences and markets of the continent, considered on their own terms.
Localized
Dubbed and subtitled in the languages people really speak.
Exported
Sold beyond its borders, at the right value.
A-05The working themes
Four questions the industry can no longer postpone
Your audience exists. You don't know it yet.
Who are films made for? Knowing the real audience in Dakar, Lagos or Abidjan, and no longer relying on the festival circuit alone.
To localize is to sell. Not to betray.
Language as a commercial decision. What dubbing and subtitling change in the life of a film.
Build your film like a company.
Release windows, rights, revenue: the economics of a film beyond its first release.
Technology works for you.
Post-production, visual effects, localization tools: what is now within reach of African filmmakers.
The detailed program, its schedule and its speakers will be published once confirmed.
